PS3 Graphics Problem? No AA
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:22:21 PM »
Do you know how to fix my PS3's grahpics, you guys? It looks like there is no AA on ANY game and I can clearly see the pixels when playing. I have to stand really far away not to notice it. It doesn't look anything like this on Youtube videos. It happens to all my games. I have a PS3 Slim and an LG flat screen TV. Any settings I have to play around with? Any help would be appreciated. :)

If you have a LCD or a plasma TV, chances are they have resolution. Now, ordinary CRT TV's don't even care about pixels, since they are very big, but LCD TV's are made for higher image quality, thus they have higher resolution. Most of the games on PS2 have about 512x512 resolution. HDTV and not just them have a higher resolution than that, thus makes the games stretch their resolution to fit the screen. That would explain it. It's like trying to run a game in 640x480 on a monitor with 1680x1050.

Yes I think that's it. So I should buy a smaller TV to fix the problem xD

@Ninkola i've played around with those display settings a lot already. i can't run games on the highst "i" but i can run them on the highest "p" i forgot what it is, but it's the highest.

No sh*t Sherlock. Well then, what are they going to do with those who play on CRT TV's? In case you forgot, you can play lower resolution games on higher resolution monitors, but not vice-versa. So how would CRT TV's manage that?

From what i've seen on PS3 and Xbox 360 games it depends on the game itself whether it supports HD resolution wich is 1920*1080 pixels(Full HD) or lower res.
Lets take Rise of a ninja and Burst limit as examples, both Xbox 360 games, but ROAN uses full HD where Burst Limit uses a lower resolution and looks a bit blurred and kinda antialiased.
I don't know if a PS3 supports True Antialiasing but for maximum Gaming expirience you should buy a 3D HD LCD screen/tv

Joking XD just get a TV/Screen wich supports full HD and you're fine.
But remember videos (youtube) look antialiased because they are videos, compressed, a bit blurred^^
here's a hole in the Sky..through wich you can fly^^

Maybe stupid question, but you do have your ps3 connected with a HDMI cable and not with the included one right?

Also something I've had myself, the slim ps3 works with HDMI version 1.3, so make sure your TV and cable is 1.3 compatible.
Putting your display in 720p instead of 1080p can resolve video issues in rare cases, especially with older HD TV's

I have an HDTV LCD and I'm using an HDMI cable. I have played around with my settings (720p,i, etc.) but all of my games run like they have no AA on. I can see the pixels. Especially when I look very closely.

EDIT: Oooh, my bad. I can't support 1080p but I can only run it in 1080i, does that help you guys figure it out?

EDIT2: I tried running it in 720p and still no success.

EDIT3: I also have an Xbox360 running on the same TV with the same cable (if I want to play Xbox, i plug it in the console after taking it out of the PS3) and I haven't noticed the Xbox giving me any such problems.

You guys never cease to amaze me... I was telling him that he should try on a TV with lower resolution/CRT TV, not a higher resolution HD TV. Here's how it goes:
Example of game. I only played PS2 games on an emulator, and I could see the resolution, although I could set it to something different. But then the game would have become weird, with some crappy lines separating the screen.
e.g.
native resolution game(512*512 native) X HDTV (1920*1080) = Sh*tty stretched graphics

native resolution game(512*512 native) X CRT TV/ LCD with lower resolution = Great graphics/ Not as bad as the HDTV

What I'm suggesting is try using a CRT TV. Y'know, the big things with screens the size of a child. Try those.(I know I'm telling you to use a old TV instead of a HDTV, but try that and see if it works. Even if it doesn't, you wouldn't notice it since they have such low resolution and such big pixels.)

Thanks, all. I'll try that, Krunch when I can get my hands one one. That, to me, still doesn't explain why my Xbox360 has better graphics on the same TV, but you make sense. ^_^
Imagine a PS2 game on my TV haha
